My darling son Carl is in a desperate situation. In August 2011 he had a scooter accident on the island of Koh Samui, Thailand and fell into a coma, suffering severe brain injury. Because the state hospital on the island had no facilities to care for Carl he was transferred to a private hospital and, after four weeks, he was transferred back to the UK by air ambulance. He remains in a coma at Salford Royal Hospital.

The costs of the hospital in Thailand and the transportation home were immense, at over £80,000: a sum we just cannot afford. Although we were able to borrow the money, paying it back will be immensely hard, if not impossible.

We don't expect anyone to have to pay for our problems, but obviously this goes well beyond what most normal families can bear alone so we turn to anyone who can help us. Normally I'm a very private person, who gets on with what life chucks at me, but this is just beyond my realms, this is devastating.

So far, we have been overwhelmed by the kind messages of support and generosity of friends, family and strangers but there is a long way to go. If you can do anything to help, through supporting one of the events or making even a small donation, it will be greatly appreciated.

Carl being hurt is unbearable and I will do whatever it takes to get him better.

Finally, to all the truly amazing, loving and caring people that have already given both their time and money to help my son Carl I can't thank you enough, there are simply no words of thanks great enough. I'd liked to have been able to thank you all personally, but please know just how much your help is truly appreciated.

My eternal thanks also to an amazing group of people: Carls friends. Thank you, I will never forget. And thanks to all my sons for their support and also to Paul (Carl's big brother) and Sarah for the creation and running of the web site.
